I have been waiting for this micro-inverter for a while as I think it unlocks a DIY onramp to Solar for many homeowners. This type of plug-n-play system isn't right for everyone and won't offset all your power needs but can be a great way to start lowering your monthly power bill with the lowest investment possible.

Trying to get back 20W per panel of 400W with water cooling seems silly because you need (1) pump energy (2) water resource. However this way you also get a cooler roof back too. You also can make it a closed loop with radiator. I guess they should sell panels with built-in water block for water cooling.

Enough nonsense. You're too poor to buy those cheap toy panels, with old perc technology cells, of course they're cranky to the tilt. Not by chance, perc technology have been out of mass production for a long time. Are you with pocket money trying to get rich by lying to people, delusional? Invest it in powerful panels of the latest cell technology, and you will see that the result is below 3%. Mr. Solar beginner, first grader.

This would be great to plug into a mango power battery system. The conversion loses are outwayed by how far from your garage you can put it. Plugging it in to the outlet is dangerous because during a power outage, it could zap a line worker. And expensive because the power company could sue you for $20k if no one is hurt. If you have a generator switch installed by electrion go ham. Just make sure you are off grid mode.

  • @affordabledcgenerators1607

Dude seriously? So you made this system but are using it on a house that already has solar with a net meter? If you want to make a system great, let's not connect it to your house, violate a shit ton of codes, not get authorization from the utility, and think it's fine without a bi-directional meter. Lots of bad info here. If you want a system like this feed it into an all in one battery/inverter. Then use a generator panel to power loads. For fuck sake don't plug it into a 120v outlet.

It's good idea for some architects to build a solar-roof with water channels in the roof itself touching solar panels. More energy + warm water.

Well, the calculation shouldn't be based on the angle of the panel - but the angle of the sun vs the panel.

I've seen plug n play solar on Amazan maybe since 2017. But the more I think about it, one would eventually need/install more-proper solar installation is must. There is still niche for this like condo-apartment with a nice balcony that faces the sun.

Most of the time, the added cost and complexity of these solutions are just not worth it. Simply adding more panels is often the best approach to improve power output.

It's really not complicated at all if you don't tie into grid. All you need is a transfer switch so that either the main power is on or the solar system but not both at the same time. It sounds like your close to producing enough power to run 100 percent off your own solar.

Better to use an off grid string inverter on a critical circuits panel with grid input when battery and solar isn’t sufficient. The power is clean and you have100% self consumption. The technology has advanced greatly and is not expensive.

For people interested in doing this: DON'T! Fresh water is so much scarcer than we think, and using it like this us extremely wasteful. If you want more power, get more panels. If that's not an option, look into "hybrid" panels. These are normal solar panels with a water cooling loop behind them. This way you harvest both power and heat from the sun. That heat can be used to preheat your water heater, so it uses less power, or it can be used as an input for a heat pump, or it can be used to heat a swimming pool. This way you're getting more power AND usable heat from the sun, instead of just wasting water. For the record, I know this was just an experiment, I have no issues with that, I just want to prevent people from taking this a bit too literally.

Dont do this!! Your local inspector and utility company will shit a brick if they catch you. There are code violations so it wouldn't pass inspection, and your utility company requires inspection and an interconnect agreement to connect to the grid.

Try using the radiator from the back of a fridge or AC unit, to collect the heat - difficulty is coupling the thermal transfer cost effectively - perhaps it could be potted with plaster of paris which is pretty cheap and should conduct heat a lot better than air which is a great insulator.

If you don't have a way to shunt the power to a standby Battery Bank, you are wasting a TON of money! Because, if all you have is a Grid Tied setup, when the Power goes out, your Solar Panels are worthless. I went with a SEPARATE setup. When OUR Local Utility hiccups, I can annually with to a Battery backup system, INDEPENDENT from the Grid. Your Technical explanations ARE correct, however, I personally do NOT like Grid-Tied only systems with no Battery backup!

I think this guy should first go back to school to learn about electricity before attempting any more videos. Why would he connect solar panels in parallel and maximise current rather than voltage? P = U I and P = R I², so from these two equations it is obvious that current must be as low as possible to minimise the losses. Solar panels should always be connected in series to maximise the voltage and minimise current.

Yes, the Current generated remain the same for the entire range of temperature, but the voltage will increase the lower the temperature it is, that's why the power difference between cooler and hat panel is small, around 10-20%, cuz the cell junction voltage is not changing that much, and the current is the same. The voltage increase relatively logarithmic with the decrease in temperature. Such water system is good for auto washing of the panels 😁

Scott, can you make a video about a completely off-grid DIY solar setup that is using an Ecoflow Delta 2 Max to power a mini split? Have a detached shed project in mind that doesn't currently have power, but I'd like to convert it to a WFH office. Edit: Got the inspiration from your recent shed project. Would like to do similar, except expand upon that with more panels and the Delta 2 Max (with extra battery, which I already have).
